Inkan

Project in collaboration with Axel Koschier during the period of resident artists in Tokyo, BMUKK Artist in Residence programm

2009

Frottage of manhole covers made with rolling rubber stamps and rubber stamps to be used by the spectators.

Variable dimensions

INKAN is a general name for printing stamps and impressions thereof which are used in lieu of signatures in personal documents, office paperwork, contracts, art, or any item requiring acknowledgement or authorship in many asian countries.

We collected the prints of the manholes around Tokyo using a rolling rubber stamp, while on the other hand we reproduced them in small size for the use of the public when visited the show.
